About Leigh

Leigh Rogan is founder of Tango Tambien, an authentic Argentine tango school located in Melbourne, Australia, which caters to all levels of dancers from beginners to advanced.

Leigh is one of Australia’s best tango technicians with over 15 years of experience dancing tango. Leigh’s expertise is drawn from her strong understanding of body movement and dance technique.

Leigh first learnt ballroom, salsa and ceroc, and then started Argentine tango with Graciela Heredia, one of the teachers who introduced Argentine tango to New Zealand. Leigh moved to London in 1999 and was fortunate to learn with some of the best known and respected teachers in the industry who were regularly and frequently teaching in Europe at that time.

In 2001 Leigh moved to Melbourne and established her own Argentine tango classes focusing on the development of dancers at all levels. Leigh’s students receive a sound foundation of technique establishing a smooth transition for students into more advanced levels as they progress.

Leigh has always studied and danced both the followers and leaders roles, giving her an excellent depth of understanding of the dance, traveling every year to Buenos Aires and Europe to continue her development.

Leigh is also a qualified pilates instructor, teaching mat pilates and stretch. In both dance and pilates, Leigh teaches with an emphasis on posture, breath and body awareness to ensure that one is moving with ease and grace.

At the same time as creating her own classes Leigh has also enjoyed a teaching association with Bill Jarman of Tango Bajo (also known as L'Affaire de Tango). Leigh and Bill, both independently and jointly, have an in-depth understanding of how the body moves and are experienced in teaching all levels of Argentine tango from beginners through to performance standard.

Both schools host international dancers and teachers, organising workshops and performances for their students.

In the past year Leigh has travelled to Buenos Aires to undertake two courses with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne and to Istanbul to study with Murat and Michelle Erdemsel. Very recently Leigh was in Buenos Aires and had intensive study with Moira Castellano and Gaston Torelli.
